Safety Tips

Find answers to your questions about LendIt.

Lendit is built on trust between neighbours. Most rentals go smoothly, but a little care on both sides keeps things that way. Whether you're lending out a drill or borrowing a paddleboard for the weekend, the tips below will help every exchange feel safe, fair, and easy.

Before You Book

Check the profile.

Look for verified IDs, completed bookings, and reviews from other members. A profile with photos, a short bio, and a history of positive exchanges is a good sign you're dealing with someone reliable.

Read the listing carefully.

Make sure the item, condition, and rental period match what you need. If anything is unclear — accessories included, age of the item, how it's been used — ask before booking.

Use the in-app chat.

Keep all conversations inside Lendit. It protects both sides if there's ever a question about what was agreed, and it means our team can help if something goes wrong.

Never pay outside the platform.

All payments, deposits, and refunds run through Lendit's secure checkout. If someone asks you to pay by bank transfer, cash, or another app, decline and report the message. Paying outside the app removes every protection we offer.

For Borrowers

Inspect the item at handover.

Take a few minutes to check the item works as described. Photograph or film it from a few angles before you take it away — this protects you if there's any disagreement later.

Know how to use it.

Ask the lender for a quick demo, especially for power tools, electronics, or anything with a learning curve. If something feels unsafe or beyond your skill, it's fine to walk away.

Treat it like your own.

Keep the item clean, dry, and stored safely. If it's something you'd be careful with in your own home, treat it that way in someone else's.

Return it on time and in the same condition.

Late returns inconvenience the next borrower and the owner. If something breaks or gets damaged, tell the lender straight away — honesty is always better than hoping it goes unnoticed.

For Lenders

Be honest in your listing.

Accurate photos, a clear description, and a note about any quirks or wear save everyone time. Borrowers appreciate knowing what to expect.

Document the item before handover.

Take dated photos showing the condition of the item before each rental. It's a simple habit that saves a lot of back-and-forth if something comes back damaged.

Explain how it works.

A quick walkthrough — how to start it, what to avoid, how to pack it away — reduces the chance of accidental damage and makes the borrower feel looked after.

Set fair expectations.

Let borrowers know when and where you can meet, what condition you expect on return, and whether there's anything they shouldn't do with the item (use it in the rain, over a certain weight, etc.).

Meeting in Person

Bring someone if you'd prefer.

There's no rule that says you have to meet alone. If it feels more comfortable to have a friend or family member with you, do.

Trust your instincts.

If something feels off — the person, the location, the item — you're under no obligation to go through with the exchange. Cancel inside the app and let us know.

Confirm the details on arrival.

A quick check that you're handing over (or receiving) the right item, with the right accessories, for the right return date avoids almost every common issue.

Identity & Account Safety

Verify your identity.

Verified members get more bookings and more trust. It's a one-time step that protects the whole community.

Keep your account secure.

Use a strong, unique password and never share your login. Lendit will never ask for your password by email or message.

Watch for phishing.

If you get a message or email that looks like Lendit but asks you to log in via an unfamiliar link, don't click it. Open the app directly instead.

Report anything suspicious.

If a profile, listing, or message doesn't feel right, use the report button. Our team reviews every report and acts quickly when something's off.

If Something Goes Wrong

Talk first.

Most issues — a late return, a small scratch, a missing accessory — get resolved with a quick, polite message. Assume good intent and start there.

Use the resolution centre.

If you can't agree, open a dispute inside the app. Keep the conversation in chat and share photos or evidence so our team has the full picture.

Contact support.

For anything urgent — safety concerns, suspected fraud, or serious damage — reach out to Lendit support straight away. We're here to help both sides find a fair outcome.

Be kind. Be clear. Be the kind of neighbour you'd want to borrow from.

Borrow it. Share it. Lendit.
